While the origin of the German Lutheran congregation in Melbourne goes back to the 1840s when German-speaking immigrants began to arrive in Victoria, settling in and around the fledgling City of Melbourne, construction of the German Lutheran Trinity Church located on the corner of Parliament Place and Cathedral Place, East Melbourne, directly in front of St Patrick's Cathedral at the eastern edge of the central city, didn't begin until 1853 with final consecration of the church taking place on 11 June 1854.

Currently staying in Germany with friends Edith & walter Krug in Schwanheim, who were married in Australia in 1970, 14th of february. they returned in 2006 and took photos of it. We have just seen them and they love it. It is under national trust and well worth viewing if in melbourne.

The original church building was replaced by the existing Gothic Revival style bluestone church in 1874. The church's beautiful stained glass windows which were created by renowned Ferguson & Urie are definitely a feature of this church. The church is very small when compared with St. Patrick's Cathedral which is directly opposite, however it's a beautiful church and definitely worth a visit.
